Download the European Fascist Movements app from the iOS app store or Google Play.
Divide the class into five groups. One group should study Eastern Europe, one Central Europe, one Northern Europe, and so on.
Using the Discover button in the app, students should explore their assigned area of Europe and identify:
- TWO incidents of violence
- TWO important individuals
- TWO quotes by fascists
- TWO examples showing how fascists worked together (or didn’t!)
Class discussion:
- What sorts of things did fascists do to draw attention to themselves?
- How did fascists spread out across Europe? Were they only active in big cities?
- What sorts of language did fascists use?
- What evidence is there that fascists were hostile towards their governments?
- How could you tell if fascists worked well together or were divided amongst themselves?
